Czechs
RSJ have provided funding to the project "Czechs – A Portrait Gallery". Open from 1 April to 5 June 2011 in the Kampa Museum in Prague, this exhibition is a unique project, conceived by photographer Pavel Brunclík. The photo portraits are those of the members of the intellectual elite of the Czech nation.
They are scientists, writers, playwrights, actors and physicians. In addition to his other inspirations (landscape, human beings), Pavel Brunclík took up portrait photography as an object of his systematic interest. He chooses prominent figures from all walks of life (art, science, politics…). He knows how to capture their unique features and to immortalize their characteristic postures. Sometimes the composition is carefully stage-managed, but the author often lets chance make all the difference. A careful choice of settings helps him enhance the import of a personality. Sometimes the pictures are black and white, sometimes they are colour, but light proportions always play a pivotal role. Of a body of more than fifty photographs, Pavel Brunclík has selected the best in terms of both contents and formal aspects. A secondary consideration was the attitude of the various personalities towards fine arts and the institute of the Kampa Museum, here the exhibition can be seen.
